5th Graders Taste the Fruits of the Beaupre Garden5th Graders Taste the Fruits of the Beaupre Garden

As school ended on Friday, August 17, the Fifth grade team took the students out to our Beaupre Community Garden to begin harvesting the vegetables that they planted during summer school this year. The students had to determine what vegetables were ripe and carefully harvest them. They then washed the fruits and were able to taste what they had grown. The fruits were a beautiful variety of flavor and color. The students were able to taste fresh carrots, cheery tomatoes, green tomatoes, basil, mint and radishes. Not only did they taste them, but students who wished to take fruits home, were able to do so to share with their families. This is a great opening to our year, as we begin teaching about environment and ecosystems within ReadyGen and STEM scopes. This was a great hook to get the students excited about what is to come in fifth grade.
